At Abilene Paving, we don’t just build roads — we carry the weight of a name that paved the way for generations.

 

Our story begins decades ago in Laredo, Texas, where Pete Gallegos, one of the most respected Hispanic contractors in South Texas, founded a group of companies that literally reshaped the city: Pete Gallegos Paving, Big Buck Asphalt, O’Boy Services, and Javalina Ready Mix. From downtown brick paver streets to the final stretch of I-35 leading to the border, his work was foundational — and personal. He didn’t just pour concrete — he poured his heart into every mile.

 

While some watched that legacy from a distance, I was born into it — raised in it. As a kid in the 1980s, I wasn’t in the office. I was outside cleaning the shop, digging trenches, and hauling hoses before the sun came up. I saw firsthand what it took — the discipline, the sacrifice, the dust, the faith. It wasn’t handed down to me — it was engraved into me.

 

That’s where Abilene Paving comes in. This isn’t a company that was inherited or passed along — it was rebuilt from the ground up, with the same blood, backbone, and belief that my grandfather instilled in his work. We honor his name, but we earn our own reputation — one project, one job, one customer at a time.
